About the Banana Republic brand

The Banana Republic brand was founded in 1978 on the initiative of Mel and Patricia Ziegler, a couple interested in traveling. Their designs were very much related to their travels and their shops were set up in a safari style. A few years after its founding, the company was bought by the GAP concern, to which it belongs to this day. Then Banana Republic underwent rebranding, becoming a mainstream luxury brand. Today, the company is extremely well-known and has an extremely large number of locations - 500 in the United States alone, another 40 in Canada and over 60 outside North America.
